Looking for an outdoor wall art for your balcony or garden seating area? A tapestry made of outdoor fabric turns a bare house wall, a balcony railing or a privacy screen into a large picture: beach, sea or palm trees right next to your lounger. Here you'll find motif ideas, design tips and everything important about the fabric and hanging it.

Why a tapestry as outdoor wall art on the balcony?
Classic pictures with glass or frames are often too heavy or too delicate for outdoors. A tapestry is light, needs no frame and can be hung in large formats. A grey concrete wall or a dull balcony wall becomes a surface that looks like a holiday.
- Large format: You choose between 150 × 100 cm and 300 × 200 cm, enough to fill wide walls at your garden seating area.
- Light and flexible: The fabric is quickly hung up and just as quickly taken down.
- Washable: If the tapestry gets dusty, wash it on a gentle cycle at max. 30 °C.
- Any motif: Choose a motif from the shop, your own photo or a premium image from the designer.
The outdoor fabric: what you should know
For every motif you choose between Standard, Premium and Outdoor under "Material". The outdoor fabric is designed for balconies, gardens and events. It is made of 600D Oxford polyester fabric, is water-repellent and more robust than the indoor fabrics. It is also highly opaque, so the wall behind it doesn't show through.
Important: water-repellent doesn't mean you should expose the tapestry to any weather. Ideally hang your outdoor wall art in a sheltered spot, for example under a canopy, on a covered balcony or on the house wall by the seating area. In storms, continuous rain and during the cold season, take it down and store it dry. That way you'll enjoy it for a long time.
Motif ideas for outdoor wall art
Outdoors, motifs with wide views and a horizon work especially well. They visually open up the space and go well with plants, wood and sunlight. You'll find many ideas in the Beach & Sea Tapestries collection. Four favourites for balconies and garden seating areas:
Beach chair idyll for a North Sea mood
Colourful beach chairs in front of dunes bring a holiday feeling to any balcony. The motif is bright and cheerful and suits white or light grey walls. Add cushions in red, blue or white and a few grasses in pots.
Sandy beach with turquoise sea
A photo motif with turquoise water and soft sand turns your garden seating area into a beach bar. Especially in XXL format, it feels as if the wall opens straight onto the sea. Wooden furniture, rattan and lanterns complete the look.

Palm beach in oil painting style
If you prefer something less photographic, choose a painted motif. A palm beach in oil painting style feels warm and a little nostalgic. It goes well with terracotta pots, small olive trees and Mediterranean plants.

Red sail in the bay
A single sailing boat in a calm bay is a lovely eye-catcher without feeling cluttered. The red sail adds a colour accent that you can pick up with red flowers or cushions.
More ideas: a beach with umbrellas from above looks graphic and modern, flamingos in the lagoon bring colour and lightness.

Balcony wall decor: planning size and space
First measure the free surface. On a small balcony, a 150 × 100 cm tapestry often already looks like a window into nature. For a house wall at the garden seating area it can be larger, around 240 × 160 cm or 300 × 200 cm. Leave some space around it so the picture doesn't look squeezed.
Also consider what stands in front of it. Tall plants or a lounge corner can hide part of the picture. A motif with a high horizon, meaning lots of sky at the top, still stays clearly visible.
Garden seating area design: hanging without drilling
For smooth, dry surfaces we recommend hot glue: a few small dots in the corners and along the top edge are enough. Alternatively use double-sided tape or Velcro. Outdoors, the "With grommets" option is often practical. It lets you attach the tapestry with hooks, cable ties or ropes to a railing, pergola or privacy screen and take it down quickly when needed.
Stretch the tapestry evenly so it hangs smoothly and doesn't flap in the wind. If you rent, check beforehand what is allowed on the facade or railing.
Your own beach photo or a premium motif
Do you have a favourite photo from your last holiday? In the tapestry designer you upload it and choose the size and the Outdoor fabric. Upload the image in the highest possible resolution so it looks sharp even in XXL format. If you don't have a suitable photo, the designer gives you access to over 140 million premium images. A premium image costs approx. €0.99.
With little effort, your balcony or garden seating area becomes your favourite place for the summer.
